Allyson and Josh had a sweet (and freezing) winter wedding at St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth last weekend! It was the coldest weather I've ever shot in - with a high of 20ºF and a wind chill making it feel like 0ºF. That's cold for us down here in Georgia! Today I am grateful for indoor weddings and receptions ;-)
Allyson and Josh met at Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake during summer camp and felt the chemistry pretty quickly! However a few years went by before they actually started dating. After two years of dating, Josh popped the question in the same spot where he'd asked Allyson to be his girlfriend. I've known both of them since that fateful day at summer camp, and I was so honored to be part of their wedding day! They celebrated their wedding at Josh's home parish of St. Monica, where they also held their reception in the parish event center. It made for a really fluid transition from the ceremony Mass to the reception.
We started the day with a moment of prayer for Allyson & Josh, where they didn't see each other. Their wedding ceremony was celebrated in the beautiful sanctuary at St. Monica. The couple incorporated flowers to Mary and to St. Joseph during their ceremony. After family photos at the altar, we spent a short amount of time with wedding party photos and couple's portraits. There aren't very many places with good light to photograph at St. Monica, but I did manage to find a pretty patch of sunlight for their couple's photos! You'd never know there was a giant concrete wall with a huge HVAC right next to them!! Poor Allyson was absolutely numb in the frigid weather, so we kept the photo time super quick. Fortunately we got a lot of good variety, since I've got my posing down to a quick system!!
Their wedding reception at event center was simple, featuring wooden projects handmade by the groom. The groom's sister made the cake from scratch and it was delicious! They catered Mexican food from La Frontera, which was a hit with their guests. They had some fun guests present who were always on the dance floor. There were 3 other couples present whose weddings I'd shot, which was a fun little reunion moment. After a private last dance and a sparkler exit, Allyson and Josh made their getaway. I am so grateful for the awesome couples that trust me with their wedding photos and precious memories. Congrats Allyson and Josh!!
